The Sentinel Electromagnetic Sniper Rifle (ESR), or simply the Sentinel, is an anti-personnel, bolt action sniper rifle contracted to Paradinha Arsenal by Lastimosa Armory.
It first appears in Apex Legends, having been added at the start of Season 4 (Assimilation), on February 4th, 2020.
History[]
Design and performance[]
The Sentinel is one of the most potent weapons in Apex Legends in terms of per-shot damage potential, with the ability to break any level of Evo Shield with a single headshot. In comparison with other sniper rifles, it has high damage and fast travel time, being beaten in the latter aspect only by the hitscan Charge Rifle, but the need to rechamber a round after every shot limits its rate of fire. It also has relatively slow handling, although this can be remedied in part by a Sniper Stock.
A unique function of the Sentinel is that it is able to be "amped." The player can temporarily increase the Sentinel's damage by 25% if they sacrifice two Shield Cells from their inventory (one if they the player is wearing Level 4 Armor). The amping process takes about five seconds. This can be stacked with Rampart's Amped Cover ability for a total damage increase of nearly 50%, enough to break a Level 3 Evo Shield with one body shot.
It also rewards players who can follow their shots, as if a player fires as soon as their shot is rechambered, the rechamber for the next shot is 22% shorter.

“ | The Sentinel is a bolt action sniper rifle, effective at medium to long range and retrofitted to solve a unique problem. Snipers for the Frontier Militia acted as linchpins in many of the Titan War’s initial conflicts, but their effectiveness was undercut by the mass mobilization of Titans by the IMC. Militia snipers realized that if they could destroy a Titan’s energy shield, that would create an opportunity for ground troops to do significant damage to the chassis. The result of these efforts—the Sentinel—was outfitted with a charge port that allowed projectiles to be energized and interfere with energy shields on impact. It would ultimately fall out of favor in Titan warfare (replaced by the heavy - hitting Charge Rifle), but remains a destructive force against a variety of targets at distance.
