King's Canyon is a map used for games in Apex Legends. A remote island once flourishing with resources on planet Solace in the Outlands, on the fringes of the Frontier. It is the site of the inaugural Apex Games - a flourishing bloodsport attracting individuals from across the Frontier.
The island was rumored to hide many secrets. Tall tales of long abandoned underground laboratories where IMC scientists conducted many secret experiments centuries ago was common knowledge among the inhabitants of Solace. However, these rumors turned out to be true following the advent of the games. Some of these facilities have been repurposed for the games, others abandoned or concealed yet more waiting to be found.
The island had an old, abandoned but functioning IMC Repulsor Tower, designed to prevent incursions by the local fauna. However, it was destroyed just as the games were preparing for the launch of the second season. The ensuing return of leviathans and flyers led to many settlements and facilities being damaged and the games were hosted in Talos for the following two seasons while the island was renovated, only returning periodically for limited amounts of time.
King's Canyon was announced to be the primary location for fifth season of Apex Games. Similar to the destruction of the Repulsor Tower, just as the fifth season was about to begin, a massive explosion in the large storage facility under skull town sunk a large section of the island southwest of the river. The entirety of Skull Town, South Settlement, Thunderdome and surrounding areas was swallowed up by the sea.
Biography
Season 2
The Repulsor Tower was targeted by Crypto, causing an EMP blast that enabled Flyers and Leviathans in the vicinity to infiltrate the island. The river became the habitat for the Leviathans, causing devastation to the settlements situated along it. Consequently, the Legends were evacuated and the games were temporarily suspended as a result of the attack. Taking advantage of this break, the Syndicate integrated additional locations onto the map, such as The Cage, a massive structure near the demolished Bridges and Hydro Dam, and Containment, a camp that now exists in the area formerly known as the Cascades.
Season 3
Due to persistent disruptions within the current arena, the Syndicate was compelled to transfer the games to a new arena situated on Talos, named World's Edge.
Season 5
Following their relocation, the Games eventually made their way back to Kings Canyon. Unfortunately, during an unsuccessful endeavor to eliminate Revenant, Loba Andrade inadvertently triggered a series of explosions within an abandoned simulacrum facility. As a result, Thunderdome and Skull Town crumbled and collapsed. In response, the Syndicate oversaw a salvage operation to handle the aftermath.
Season 8
In the early part of 2734, the Apex Games admitted Fuse as its first participant from Salvo. To mark this event and the inclusion of Salvo in Syndicate Space, a ceremony was organized on the island. However, this ceremony was disrupted by an attack from Mad Maggie, a warlord hailing from Salvo. The resulting assault caused significant damage to Kings Canyon and the crashing of the IMS Thermopylae, the vessel used for the ceremony, in the island's northern region.
As a consequence of the shipwreck, fuel leaks occurred, prompting the establishment of camps and outposts by ECHO near the crash site. Their primary objective was to prevent the fuel from spreading and contaminating the waterways of Kings Canyon. Additionally, Caustic was granted permission to utilize a refurbished water treatment plant under the guise of assisting in the cleanup efforts.
Season 14
In the later months of 2734, the salvage operation at the wreckage of Skull Town reached its conclusion. Comprehensive efforts were undertaken to terraform Kings Canyon, resulting in the restoration of a significant portion of land to fill the crater, while Skull Town underwent partial reconstruction. Subsequently, a ceremony was organized to mark the successful completion of this endeavor.
