King's Canyon is a map used for games in Apex Legends. A remote island once flourishing with resources on planet Solace in the Outlands, on the fringes of the Frontier. It is the site of the inaugural Apex Games - a flourishing blood sport attracting individuals from across the Frontier.
The island was rumored to hide many secrets. Tall tales of long abandoned underground laboratories where IMC scientists conducted many secret experiments centuries ago was common knowledge among the inhabitants of Solace. However, these rumors turned out to be true following the advent of the games. Some of these facilities have been repurposed for the games, others abandoned or concealed yet more waiting to be found.
The island had an old, abandoned but functioning IMC Repulsor Tower, designed to prevent incursions by the local fauna. However, it was destroyed just as the games were preparing for the launch of the second season. The ensuing return of leviathans and flyers led to many settlements and facilities being damaged and the games were hosted in Talos for the following two seasons while the island was renovated, only returning periodically for limited ammounts of time.
King's Canyon was announced to be the primary location for fifth season of Apex Games. Similar to the destruction of the Repulsor Tower, just as the fifth season was about to begin, a massive explosion in the large storage facility under skull town sunk a large section of the island southwest of the river. The entirety of Skull Town, South Settlement, Thunderdome and surrounding areas was swallowed up by the sea.
