A Jump Drive allows a ship to travel very long distances in the blink of an eye. Between jumps, a ship is vulnerable to attack as it plods along using basic thrusters while the Jump Drive recharges. Recharging can take anywhere from a few seconds to several days, depending on the size of the ship and the distance of the jump. The drives require a specially refined fuel in order to recharge, possibly negative matter, and on long series of jumps, there is a real danger of being stranded without fuel, if the ship does not end up within range of a refueling ship or station.
The most famous station is the IMC’s port of Demeter, which lies on the only jump route between the Core Systems and the Frontier. However, refuelling facilities also exist on Eden, Cibus and Victor.
Titanfall[]
Jump Drives are utilised by Goblins and Crows, as the player Pilots jump into the map at the beginning of every Pilot-based multiplayer match. The general sequence is witnessed in first person as the player’s view slowly warping before blasting into blueish-white, and promptly fades to reveal the jump has succeeded. Most, but not all campaign missions also start off with a Dropship jump into the battlefield, notable exceptions include the Battle of Demeter and The Three Towers, both from the IMC’s perspective. The Epilogue showcases an evacuation to a Dropship for the losing team, where if succeeded and the Dropship isn’t destroyed, it will jump out of the battle into space, saving the Pilots for another battle and presumably returning to their fleet to regroup and rearm.
Outside of first person jumps, other starships and supercarriers can be seen jumping into the map during certain campaign missions such as The Refueling Raid, and in other instances even jump out of the map en masse, like the Battle of Demeter. Grunts will also deploy via Zipline from Dropships that jump into the map periodically, before jumping out once the troops are clear.
Titanfall 2[]
Once again, jumps are conducted in the beginning of every Pilot-based multiplayer match, with the exception of Crash Site on Attrition, wherein the Pilots will spawn on the map itself. While the jump sequence itself isn’t seen, it is implied as the noise and text reading “Jumping into location” is still present. As before, the Epilogue will field a Dropship to pick up losing players before it jumps out of battle if it isn’t shot down first, and Grunts still zipline down from Dropships jumping in periodically.
The new single-player campaign has only one jump sequence witnessed in first person - the pivotal moment of Sarah and Barker flying in the middle of a rupturing Typhon to save Jack Cooper, and jumping out just in time to witness the planet implode.
Apex Legends[]
While jumping is no longer seen in first person, the technology for it remains in use after the war. Goblin Dropships will jump into the arena to respawn dead players, before jumping out again. The Season 7 trailer and Stories From The Outlands - Northstar also features Goblins jumping, in Northstar’s case, it depicts a flashback of a (presumably) Militia fleet jumping in en masse and engaging Viper’s Northstar, unknowingly piloted by the inexperienced, young Valkyrie. Furthermore, Loba possesses a bracelet equipped with Jump Drive technology that grants her the ability to conveniently teleport to the exact location where the bracelet lands.
