In Apex Legends, Gear includes items that a legend participating in the Apex Games can equip to gain an advantage. These include backpacks for additional carry capacity and armors such as helmets, body shields and knockdown shields. Each type comes in varying rarity which can be found scattered throughout the map and inside various containers and care packages.
- Backpacks provide additional carry capacity.
- Helmets provide protection against headshots.
- Body Shields absorb incoming damage, shield charge can be replenished with cells, batteries and Phoenix Kits. Except for Level 4 body shields, these no longer exist in the Battle Royale version. Arenas still will make players spawn in with a Level 2 Body shield in the first few rounds, increasing this to Level 3 in later rounds, and at sudden death, every player will be given a Mythic Evo Shield.
- Evo Shields upgrades to successive tiers after the wearer inflicts a set amount of damage to hostile combatants. Similar to regular bodyshields using cells, batteries and Phoenix Kits repairs lost shields. As of Season 9, every player spawns with an Evo shield, which starts out at level 1. A player can also reduce the damage needed to level their evo shield up by inserting it into a replicator with a given number of crafting materials. This reduces the amount needed by 150 damage points.
- Knockdown Shields absorb incoming directional damage only when the user is knocked down. If a player holds their knockdown shield up, it reduces their movement while downed by 55%.
