Defensive Abilities are a revised form of Tactical Ability appearing in Titanfall 2. as part of the Titan loadout system. Defensive abilities, as the name would imply, are loadout options suited for defense, primarily taking the form of shields. These include the Titanfall Tactical Abilities Vortex Shield and Particle Wall.
- Vortex Shield - A returning Titanfall Tactical Ability now utilised by the Ion Titan.
- Thermal Shield - A new shield type utilised by the Titan Scorch.
- Tether Trap - A deployable tripwire utilised by Northstar, used to hold an enemy Titan or Reaper in one location for a short period.
- Sword Block - This ability uses the Broadsword employed by Ronin to absorb incoming firepower.
- Particle Wall - Another Titanfallstaple, now used by the Tone.
- Gun Shield - A deployable shield that wraps around the Predator Cannon used by Legion.
- Energy Siphon - An offensive tool similar to Ion's Laser Shot. However, instead of dealing direct damage, the Siphon restores the Monarch's shields and temporarily stuns enemies.
