Anita Williams, also known by her alias "Bangalore", is one of the playable Legends in Apex Legends. She is an ex-soldier for the IMC Armed Forces and a competitor within the Apex Games.

Biography[]

Professional Soldier[]

Born into a military family where she, her parents, and her four older brothers all served in the IMC Armed Forces, Bangalore has been an exceptional soldier since she was young. She was top of her class at the IMC Military Academy and the only cadet who could take apart a Peacekeeper, equip it with a Precision Choke hop-up, and put it back together in under twenty seconds – blindfolded.

Three years ago, Anita and her brother Jackson were ordered to retrieve a mercenary fleet from the Outlands to aid in the IMC’s fight against the Militia. However, their unit lost contact with IMC HQ and was ambushed on arrival. The squad scattered, but Jackson stayed behind to give his sister time to escape. Alone and with no way home, Anita put her training, extensive weapon knowledge, and competitive spirit to work by joining the Apex Games. Now, she fights to raise money for passage back to the IMC home base, where she hopes to reunite with what remains of her family.

Origins[]

Anita Williams was born in 2695 on Gridiron to Felicia & Ronald Williams. The Williams family was a military family that had four previous generations before them, all joining the IMC and becoming decorated soldiers. Bangalore was raised alongside four brothers, three of which went into the IMC Armed Services while the other, Zeke, went into scientific research at the IMC facilities on Typhon.

Throughout childhood, Anita held a strong kinship and a friendly rivalry with her big brother, Jackson. The two created a lifelong game to see who would be better at even the most menial tasks. The pair kept a scorecard between them, including tasks such as “who said their first word first”, “fastest time to disassemble an R-201," “who met Vice Admiral Graves first,” and “who spit on Vice Admiral Graves (post-betrayal) first."

One famous tradition kept by the family was the Williams Sendoff. The morning before a Williams child was to be deployed, the family would share one last round of beers together and fashion the bottle caps into a bracelet. That way, the departing soldier would have a memento to remind them that the family was always together, no matter how far apart. However Zeke who went into the science division missed this due to being with his girlfriend and so was somewhat alienated, both due to being in the science sector and missing the sendoff.

Anita and her brother were together during their time in boot camp. During one prank war, Anita spiked Jackson’s rations with laxatives, only for them to be eaten by their commanding officer. As punishment, both siblings were forced to clean an Essex-class cruiser with toothbrushes. In another incident, during a bow shooting competition, Jackson knocked Anita's elbow before her final shot, causing her to lose by a single point.

On the day of their graduation, the siblings’ score card was tied, with each of them having completed 99 tasks. Jackson received his marching order a few days before Anita, seemingly cementing him as the better Williams sibling as that was the final task. She tore the card to shreds in anger after this. After their graduation, as Jackson approaches Anita to give her a gift, the destruction of Typhon by the Frontier Militia was announced. All of the hundreds of thousands of IMC personnel on the planet had perished - including Zeke, the oldest Williams sibling. Anita gained a burning hatred of the Militia from that day.

Jackson, not trusting Anita to go rogue after receiving the news, was granted a transfer, and was given the same deployment as his sister, joining the crew of the IMS Hestia.

Battle of Gridiron[]

After the Battle of Typhon and the planet's destruction, the IMC’s resources became concentrated on Gridiron. With losses mounting, defection began to occur. The Apex Predators departed, as did the Remnant Fleet under Spyglass' command. With these losses, desertion and the destruction of Typhon, the IMC became desperate and outnumbered as well as suffering from a mass collapse in leadership. The Militia eventually surrounded the planet and began an attack that would become the Battle of Gridiron that symbolised the end of The Frontier Wars as well the IMC and the Frontier Militia.

Anita and Jackson both participated in the Battle of Gridiron, during which a Militia Cloak Pilot engaged the former. Despite her best efforts, she could not defeat the Pilot, being stabbed by their data knife.

During her recovery, Jackson, who took command of the IMS Hestia, decided that Gridiron was lost and it was against the crew’s best interest to continue fighting, starting a mutiny in the process as the official orders were to continue the battle. Anita had to be sedated and thrown into a stasis pod to prevent her from stopping Jackson. However there are varying sources on the validity of these events due to the events in the Pathfinder's Quest Book being portrayed with a slight variation as General Lewis was implied to be in command and was fleeing along with the rest of the crew.

An item that had been recovered from Typhon, a powerful energy source related to the Ark which powered Typhon’s Fold Weapon, was used to amplify the vessel’s drives, allowing it to travel from Gridiron to the borders of the Outlands in less than a year - far less than the twenty this trip would normally take. When the crew arrived in the Outlands, the power source was exhausted, and a return trip would take at least twenty years. Additionally, the Blackout had begun, extinguishing all sources of communication with the rest of the Frontier, including Gridiron, leaving the outcome of the battle unknown to most of the Frontier for many years.

Settlement on Storm Point[]

By the time Anita awoke, the IMS Hestia had crash landed on the Gaean island of Storm Point. The survivors began creating a settlement at the crash site, with Jackson as their unofficial leader.

Anita, perturbed by this perceived act of treason, sent an SOS for evacuation and confronted Jackson. Eventually, she received a response from Commander Scryer, an IMC Pilot. Scryer arrived on his personal ship and attempted to execute Jackson for treason and after indiscriminately bombing the settlement. Anita intervened, and the Williams siblings began to fight Scryer while he mocked them. After picking up Anita and flying around the settlement with her, she was able to disable Scryer’s jump pack with his data knife. Crashing into a nearby building, she recognized his tactics as similar to those used by the Pilot she fought during the Battle of Gridiron. Working together with Jackson, she was able to disarm him and fatally stab Scryer with his own data knife. She then took the knife as her own.

After the death of Scryer, the crew commandeered his ship, christening it the Hestia 02 and using it as their new home. Anita joins them, helping her brother to hide from the pursuing IMC leadership.

The Hestia 02[]

Over the next five years, the crew members of the Hestia-02 took odd jobs to get by. Eventually, Jackson revealed to Anita the true reason behind their truancy: The ARES Division, an archaeological unit of the IMC, was planning on using a device known as the Fold Weapon to decimate various planets across the Frontier to force the Militia into submission. The Militia had killed hundreds of thousands of people to save billions.

Roughly a week after this revelation, a grenade exploded on the outer hull of the Hestia 02 when it was above Solace, due to meet with an unknown ship. Jackson was lost during this incident, falling out the ship into orbit, having shielded Anita and prevented her from flying out of the ship. As Anita watched helplessly as the most important person in her life was taken from her, she refused to believe that he had died.

Six months after the explosion, Anita decided to look through the possessions Jackson had left behind. With them, she found their scorecard, having been taped back together after she had destroyed it. Jackson had made one modification to it - he had added one last task, showing that Anita had won their competition because “A comes before J in the alphabet.” She also found a note from him, which said that “what’s been torn apart can always be put back together again." She then resolved to find a way to search for Jackson and find a way for them to return home to Gridiron.

In 2727, Anita worked as a security guard in the town of Little Mouse, Solace. An informant contacted her, claiming to have information regarding Jackson. Arriving at a facility on the island of Kings Canyon, she plugged in the drive to find a video message recorded by Jackson, who seemed to be still alive. Though she was overjoyed, this happiness was short-lived, as immediately after the drive was taken by the Voidwalker Wraith.

At some point, Anita was at a shooting range to celebrate her birthday when she was harassed by James “Forge” McCormick. He later went on to describe the incident as the two “having a thing."

Anita later joined the Apex Games to raise money to fund her return trip to Gridiron.

At some point, Angela Fazia, a reporter for the Outlands Journal tabloid, attempted to interview Anita regarding her past. She ignored the repetitive requests, eventually threatening Fazia if she was to continue.

In 2729, Bangalore won an Apex Games match.

Season 5[]

Anita was present when Skull Town sank into the Duchess River and Loba Andrade arose from the wreckage. She detained the intruder, keeping a Peacekeeper to her head. At that moment, two dropships arrived. One contained a platoon of BRD-01 Spectre sent by the The Syndicate, and the other contained Cheryl Amacci, the head of Hammond Robotics’ legal department. Amacci announces Loba’s entrance into the Games as the newest Legend, much to the violent chagrin of Anita. As she walks away, she overhears Loba having a conversation with Yoko Zepnewski, Amacci’s chief of staff.

The Broken Ghost[]

After Loba joined the Apex Games, she solicited the assistance of the other Legends (sans Revenant) to hunt down pieces of an artefact on an alternate Kings Canyon, in the Shadowfall dimension. This included Bangalore.

When Octane reveals that he has a date scheduled with Yoko Zepnewski, Anita seizes the opportunity to obtain information regarding Loba’s true intentions. Octane accidentally reveals the true purpose of the “date,” but Zepnewski reveals that Loba is working with Hammond Robotics to find something called a “source code,” or the biological remains of Revenant’s human mind. She gives this information on the condition that she receives Anita’s autograph. However, the “date” is cut short when Wattson is injured in the Shadowfall dimension.

While Wattson recovers from her injuries, Revenant arrives to harass and threaten the Legends. Anita, Gibraltar, and Bloodhound suddenly return from the Shadowfall dimension to fend off their assailant. Anita states her belief that someone is feeding him information. Crypto offhandedly accuses her of being the mole, to which she dismissively brushes the comment off. Eventually, Revenant returns in the form of Crypto’s drone and confirms that there is a mole amongst them.

After this incident, Octane haphazardly rushes into the Shadowfall dimension, leaving behind a note for Lifeline. After reading it, she confronts Anita, placing some of the blame on her for turning his “date” into an intel-gathering mission. She refuses to send an extraction team to rescue Octane and leaves. An angered Lifeline, wanting to give some incentive for Anita to capitulate, abducts Yoko Zepnewski and forces Anita to give her an autograph. In return, Zepnewski gives Anita a transcript of her and Cheryl Amacci’s discussion with Loba.

Returning to the Legends, Anita reveals the truth about their “quest”: the “treasure” they have been gathering has been for Hammond Robotics the entire time. Despite the further mistrust this revelation sows, the Legends decide to complete the project to find out more of the truth.

After the “treasure” is completed, Anita secretly follows Loba to her ship, wary that Revenant will be waiting for her. Hiding herself in an overwatch position to provide covering fire if necessary, she eavesdrops on Loba and Revenant’s conversation, where he reveals that he wishes to die. He points out that she is hiding, and Anita reveals herself after Revenant leaves. This helps to mend the bad blood between the two, and they begin to grow closer.

Season 6[]

The Endorsement[]

Anita visited Rampart’s shop with Gibraltar to share a drink.

Overtime[]

One Saturday on 2733, Anita completed an Apex Games match on Kings Canyon. Afterward, she joined Gibraltar and Loba at a restaurant. Through the window, she sees a man wearing a jacket that belonged to Jackson. Hoping to reclaim this, she pursues the man in the streets of Solace City. Anita takes the jacket, and when asked, the man tells her that he took it from someone at a local hospital.

Suddenly, they are interrupted by a horde of rampaging prowlers, which kill the man wearing the jacket. The Legends were then confronted by a heavily-armed Trident, with the men inside claiming that the man was with them. Anita fended them off using a smoke canister, but the resulting crash took out a significant portion of Solace City’s power grid.

Bangalore, Loba, and Gibraltar then arrive at the hospital, finding many of the other Legends there as well, only to be caught under debris from a landing dropship owned by Boss Willis of the The Syndicate. She assisted in rescuing patients, encountering the man who had held the jacket.

Pathfinder's Quest[]

Anita met with Pathfinder when the latter sought answers regarding his creator. They discussed family, Anita’s past on the Hestia, and her feelings about being an IMC soldier in a world that is so against them.

Season 8[]

One day, Anita and Wraith were scheduled to fight together in an Apex Games match. During preparations on the drop ship, she asks Wraith to hand her her jump pack. When Wraith bent down to grab it, she found a Pilot’s data knife and pressed Anita for information. Anita reacted violently, grappling Wraith and telling her that “[she is] not taking anything else from [her]”.

Season 9[]

The Legacy Antigen[]

Upon the arrival of the Icarus fleet to Olympus, the Legends went to investigate the mysterious ships. After some casual flirting between Loba and Anita, the former went to investigate the ship and fell through a weak part of the dock but was saved by Valkyrie However, this joy was short lived, as it was discovered that the massive vines protruding from the ship were carrying a potent disease-causing agent. Anita contracted this illness, and she had three days to live unless a cure was found.

Anita was quickly admitted to a local hospital on Olympus. However, she was agitated with the idea of simply sitting around waiting to die, wishing to assist the other Legends in finding a cure. Detonating one of her smoke canisters, she attempted to leave, but was stopped by Wraith. The two engaged in a vitriolic fight, where Anita revealed the reason she hates Wraith: she blames her for not being able to find her brother. Recounting her trip to Singh Labs to Wraith, the latter stated that she was not responsible; the true culprit was the Voidwalker Wraith. Excited to know what was happening for once, Wraith proposed a pact with Anita: Wraith would assist Anita with her search for Jackson, and Anita would help Wraith find out more about her past. Anita accepted these terms.

After the cure was developed, a recovering Anita was visited by Rampart and Gibraltar. When asked by Rampart for “a little bow-chika-mow-mow” regarding Loba, Anita replied that they were simply friends. Loba was waiting outside with flowers and overheard this conversation, crushing her. However, Anita later expressed regret at having said this.

Season 10[]

One day, an emergency capsule landed on the edge of Olympus. Anita seemed to recognize the capsule, and was in disbelief as to what she saw. Upon entering, she found a manifest containing data regarding the crew members of the IMS Hestia, as well as information pointing towards Storm Point. She additionally heard a recording of the message she sent after waking up on the island.

Season 11[]

After the The Syndicate acquired Storm Point as an arena for the Apex Games, Anita seemed intent on surveying the wreckage of the IMS Hestia, despite her belief that there was nothing more to be found. Around this time, she had drafted a message to Loba about the site, but deleted it before she could send it.

During an expedition with Wraith, she recounted the story of how she obtained her data knife, as well as her landing on Storm Point. On another occasion, Anita was attempting to repair a radio transmitter she once used to try to send a message to her family on Gridiron. Wraith approached her, stating that she was waiting for word from a contact in Solace City. After she leaves, she hears a thud and is met by Revenant, who says he wants to “have a little chat”.

Soon after, on the Apex Games dropship, Revenant engages with Anita once more. Positing that Jackson must be either dead or in hiding, he reiterates what he proposed in her apartment: the pair should pool their resources, allowing them to significantly shorten the length of the normally 20-year trip to Gridiron. After mentioning her aging parents, she begins to consider the offer.

Season 12[]

Anita began to see a therapist to help her overcome the loss of Jackson and her perceived failures as a soldier.

The Williams Sendoff[]

One day, Wraith arrived at Anita's door with news. Having located a morgue on Solace, she had found Jackson's dog tags, as well as five-year-old records of a body whose age, height, weight, and dog tags matched Jackson's. Anita demanded to see the body, but the morgue buries its corpses after two weeks if they are not identified. Additionally, the records of the site of burial had been lost in a fire. A distraught Anita wept in despair.

Anita met Loba at a bar to discuss the predicament of whether or not she should return to Gridiron. Loba was initially hesitant to support Anita's departure. However, when Anita let slip that she would be taken by Revenant, Loba entered into a rage. Recalling the night at the hospital on Olympus, she tells her that they were never "just friends" and that she should just leave. After an enraged Loba departed, Revenant approached and requested a final answer. Anita, seeing that all her bridges have burned, agreed.

Before departing, Anita made one final stop at Storm Point to visit the wreckage of the IMS Hestia. Taking out a case of beer, she held one last Williams Sendoff, saying her final goodbye to Jackson. After this revelation, Anita decided to remain in the Outlands.

Season 13[]

Having packed her belongings, Anita tried to enter the Paradise Lounge for a drink, but was met by a locked door. Hearing murmuring inside, she surmised that a party was being planned for her departure.

The party was held aboard the dropship, immediately before what was supposed to be Anita's final Apex Games match on Storm Point. During the party, she was reprimanded by Loba for running away from the family she had found in the Outlands. She additionally saw her intended replacement, a new fighter under the name of Newcastle. As they approached the drop zone, she, Newcastle, and Mirage were placed on a team together.

Landing on Storm Point, a violent tremor caused an IMC security installation to rise from the ground. Anita and Newcastle entered to find a large weapons cache, but as Anita grabbed a Havoc Energy Rifle, Spectres were activated in defence. Together, the two defeated the robots, only to be met by a larger threat -- the large aquatic beast that had been causing the tremors came ashore. Rallying together with the other Legends, the two were able to kill the creature.

After tending to a wounded Valkyrie, Anita went to meet with Newcastle, who was recovering against a rock and hiding a bottlecap bracelet. She approached him and removed his helmet, confirming her belief that he was her brother, Jackson.

Family Secrets[]

Jackson's long disappearance caused significant tension between the two siblings. After a match on Storm Point, Anita and Jackson began to argue, with Anita questioning why he was refusing to give her any information. Soon after, Jackson received a phone call from an unknown party, and he refused to take it in her presence, leaving Anita to take the dropship.

After leaving the dropship, she followed Jackson back to Harris Valley. Upon arriving, she was interrupted by a hot dog seller. They asked Anita to leave, citing the fact that Harris Valley was founded by those left behind by the IMC, and her public embracing of IMC iconography could cause tension. She rebuffed him, but this distraction caused her to lose track of Jackson. She then noticed a warehouse in an alleyway and entered on a hunch, sneaking in through a window.

Upon entering the warehouse, she discovered Jackson's transaction with the Forgotten Families. Eavesdropping, she found that their leader knew Jackson's true identity. After their engagement ended, Anita was discovered by a mercenary. In an attempt to escape, she launched a smoke grenade, and was found by Wraith and Mirage, who had trailed her to Harris Valley. The three began to fight their way out, with Anita engaging a soldier with a chain gun.

The three fought together clumsily until Mirage requested additional communication. After the three eliminated the mercenary wielding the chain gun, Anita turned on Wraith and Mirage, angered that they intruded on Williams family business despite their best intentions. She began debating with Wraith, angry that she had mislead her about Jackson's whereabouts and wishing that she would figure out her own life before intruding on hers. At the request of Mirage, Anita then stormed off.

Anita later ventured near a block party in Harris Valley, circling it while ruminating on what had occurred. Here she met Wraith, and the two made amends, with Anita promising to assist with finding Wraith's past. Suddenly, a member of the crowd jeered at Anita, telling the "IMC scum" to leave Harris Valley. In the gathering commotion she noticed Jackson and two children. After putting two and two together, she realized that this was Jackson's family. Not wishing to cause any trouble, Anita then left Harris Valley.

Bangalore comes from a military family and always maintained a close relationship with them, even throughout her time in the IMC and the Apex Games. She is fiercely loyal towards them even going as far to punch Zeke's , one of her brothers' girlfriend, Catelynne who cheated on him in the face at his funeral. In addition to Zeke, Bangalore has three other brothers; Jackson, Monty and Isaiah (Zaia). All of these brothers served in the IMC Armed Forces with the exception of Zeke who became a scientist on Typhon.

However, Bangalore's relationship with her brother Jackson was above all other family, being one year apart they competed fiercely over everything and this proceeded during their time in the IMC, constantly trying to out do each other in Boot camp. However their relationship became frayed when Jackson chose to leave the IMC behind after the battle of Gridiron while Anita remained fiercely loyal to the IMC's cause. Despite this betrayal, she still cared deeply about him and was inconsolable when he apparently died when the ship the siblings was on, was bombed by a unknown faction. Bangalore remained in denial for years until she finally came to terms with his death however it was later proved that he was alive and operating under the name Newcastle.

Bangalore generally forged good relationships with the Legends but chief among these was her fast friendship with Makoa Gibraltar and Ramya 'Rampart' Parekh with the three of them regularly training together as well as going out for drinks together.

However some of Bangalore's relationships with the Legends are more frayed, harbouring a significant dislike of Forge after he hassled her on her birthday and she rebuffed him. Her hatred only increased when Forge later informed the press that they had a fling.

Bangalore initially harboured a dislike of Wraith after Voidwalker Wraith stole a hard drive containing a video of Jackson as well as Wraith discovering a pilot's knife in Bangalore's belongings. Yet this relationship improved when Wraith explained that it wasn't her but the Voidwalker and they decided to work together amicable to discover more about Voidwalker Wraith.

Furthermore, Bangalore's hatred of the press only continues when Angelia Fazia attempted to interview her after a Apex Game and was furthered with the media slamming the IMC for their role in the Titan and Frontier Wars. This has meant that Bangalore attracts constant hatred from the public due to her wearing IMC badges and patches.

Bangalore also began to harbour feelings for Loba Andrade, a fellow Legend however as Loba was going to confess her feelings about Bangalore, she overheard Bangalore telling Wraith that she viewed Loba as a friend, leading Loba to rebound onto Valkyrie causing Bangalore to become conflicted which led to her decision to join Revenant in a return to Gridiron.

Trivia[]

  • According to developer interviews:
    • Bangalore is described as "ex-IMC," even though her profile doesn't directly mention severing ties with the conglomerate. That aside, developers noted she was expressly written to have come from a strong and proud military background and is described as "a good guy."
    • She is expressly described and designed as the basic "soldier character" that is easy to grasp and digest.
    • She is named for the "Bangalore torpedo," a piped explosive charge used in wartime to clear defensive structures and obstacles.
    • Her mechanical kit is inspired by the Punjab soldiers serving in the British Indian Army during World War I, who would use smoke and creeping barrages of artillery fire to charge across open field.
    • She was partly inspired by and ended up serving as an homage to predominantly African-American regiments, like the Harlem Hellfighters.
  • "Oscar Mike" is a term Bangalore uses a lot. This is a military term which means "On the Move".
  • Bangalore's abilities came from the gameplay need to have a character who could help their team advance on enemies through large open areas.
  • If Bangalore reloads while simultaneously launching a smoke canister, the weapon's magazine will load by itself. Before being patched out, a third arm used to come into view.
  • Bangalore is LGBTQIA+. What she specifically identifies as is unknown although she is known to have an attraction to women due to her having conflicting feelings towards Loba.
  • Bangalore's favourite weapon is the G7 Scout.
  • When she was growing up, her parents raised her on the P20-series handguns, as hinted at when Bangalore pings a P2020 in the game.
  • Bangalore enjoys shooting guns on her birthday.
  • Her Heirloom is a Pilot's Data Knife, taken from IMC Lieutenant Scryer after his defeat on Storm Point. She claims to have already attempted, fruitlessly, to check the data on it herself.
    • Additionally the overall appearance of the knife, especially the curve in the middle of the blade, makes it closely resemble a kukri.

Wrapped around the blade's sheath is a bracelet of bottlecaps, made for her by her family as a memento before her first deployment.

  • According to the manifest in the spherical pod on Olympus, she is considered AWOL (absent without leave), even though she considers herself as MIA (missing in action).
  • Her fans call themselves "Bangalords".
